When things started to feel a little cramped, these future homeowners said ‘goodbye’ to their one-bedroom apartment in Manhattan and ‘hello’ to a home in the spacious suburbs. Their not-so-new home in New Jersey had good bones and that was enough for them to start on the journey of a home renovation to make it their own.
The home’s original style was dated, dark, and dingy. Removing the dark wood cabinets, old lighting fixtures, dated tile, countertops, and dated flooring meant the couple could impart their own style on the entire space, top to bottom. Luckily, the layout and square footage were fine just the way it was. This meant that the remodeling budget could concentrate on taking the space from traditional and dark to contemporary and full of light without having to expand the existing footprint.
When they were ready to take the remodeling leap, they chose JMC Home Improvement Specialists. Our before-and-after portfolio of finished remodels was enough to convince the new homeowners that we are design-build experts that bring homes from tired and dated to modern and refined while adding value to their investment.
Once the design team met with the homeowners and discussed their design goals, the team got to work creating iterations of the space and its possibilities. Next, cabinetry, the light fixtures, flooring, tile, paint colors, and every other detail were chosen carefully. The space began to come to life as the construction team worked to replace the old with the new. All materials, kitchen flooring, and tilework were painstakingly installed to ensure every seam and line is precise, including a custom-built bathroom.
Many of the finishes the homeowners chose are fresh and trending, while some of the larger features are timeless. For example, the white stacked shaker cabinets are a modern mainstay that will continue to look current for many years. The floor, wall color, backsplash, and countertops are also in timeless neutral tones that make for a sophisticated backdrop to more of-the-moment details.
As for the on-trend satin brass hardware and plumbing fixtures, the homeowners will be able to change these elements out effortlessly when they’re ready for a new tone. The color chosen for the kitchen island aligns with the top trending paint colors of 2022. The earthy green stands out enough to add a fresh pop of color but also coordinates beautifully with the gold, black, and gray tones used throughout the space.
The remodeled half bathroom off of the kitchen also exhibits both timeless and trending elements. The striking but classic marble floor tiles and statement tile wall play strong supporting roles to the centerpiece of the space: the custom single vanity. The natural teak finish allows the bold woodgrain to shine through.
Natrual wood tones are evident in both the kitchen and bar area. Because of the material shortages, the white oak shelves provided a slight hiccup in this remodel but proved to be worth the wait once they were in place. Fortunately, this detail didn’t delay the proud new homeowners from enjoying their bright, polished, and charismatic kitchen.
This New Jersey remodel combines both proven materials and selections that have risen in popularity recently. The entire composition is balanced, fresh, light-filled, and refined.
These homeowners took a chance moving to the suburbs but not in choosing their design-build firm. When deciding on the design-build team that would be best suited for their project, they did their homework and chose a firm that delivers outstanding work and excellent customer service, within their budget and timeline.
